Many people suffer from neck, arm, shoulder, and back problems that come from doing computer work...and sometimes having computer fun. These injuries are often lumped together and called musculoskeletal disorders (MSD). Interestingly enough, eyestrain from staring at a computer screen and lower back pain from sitting in chairs without proper support are classified as MSD. Those of us who spend hours on-line, either using a desktop or laptop, would most likely benefit from the ergonomic suggestions made on the National Institutes of Health's Department of Occupational Health Services webpage. Check it out.

Massage therapy can relieve the stress you have placed on your body by sitting for long periods of time. Stiffness, tightness and soreness in your muscles will decrease. Your circulation will also improve as new oxygen-rich blood floods any congested areas. Now massage cannot alleviate eyestrain, but regular massage is beneficial for the lower back pain, particularly when used in conjunction with a good ergonomics program. Other areas of the body, adversely affected by poor posture, harmful repetitive movements, and/or poor work habits, also benefit from massage. Let's love ourselves while we are loving our computers!

People can really benefit from proper posture when working on the computer, and I agree massage is great for relieving stress.
