The 10th Annual National Women's Health Week runs from Mother's Day, May 10, 2009 until May 16, 2009 with a "It's Your Time" theme. This health week, coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, empowers women to make their health a top priority.
Here in Richmond, VA, I am hosting a free mini-event in celebration of a proclamation issued by Governor Tim Kaine. This proclamation designates May 10-16, 2009 as National Women's Health Week and urges citizens to participate in the weekly activities. Governor Kaine applauds women for taking responsibility for their own health though greater knowledge and understanding and also supports efforts to improve awareness of key health issues for women by businesses and organizations.
Check out the website - www.womenshealth.gov - to find out about events in your state and find out what simple steps you can take for a healthier life. These events will provide you with helpful information to improve your physical and mental health, as well as lower the risks of certain diseases. You will find information about National Women's Check-up Day, which is today. An eight week online physical activity program, The Woman Challenge, started May 10th, but you can easily start it today. The site is full of information useful to you and any other women you know, so feel free to share!
