Is It Too Late?

Oh no, you are running late!! Whatever the reason, you just cannot make it on time. Like many massage therapists, I usually schedule clients with a 30 minute break between appointments. That break gives me time to discuss the session with the client and write my chart notes. I also have an opportunity to eat or drink something, take a bathroom break, check the phone for messages, and get the room ready for the next client.

When I get your message about being late, I am on full alert status. I quickly glance at my schedule to see if anyone is scheduled after you. I call you, knowing that you are not in the best of moods, because something has blocked your attempt to be on time for a much needed massage. If you are going to be less than 10 minutes late and still want a full session, I may be able to accommodate you, depending upon the schedule. However, if you arrive any later than that, you'll probably need to reschedule your appointment. If you still want to come in, consider doing a shorter session, i.e., 30 or 45 minutes, so that I can target your specific area of concern.
When you arrive, I ask you to sit down and breathe. Slow down your breathing. Sometimes, it's not too late.

Re: Is It Too Late?
I'm horrible at keeping track of time because I'm always procrastinating, especially if I'm prepared way before the time I'm supposed to leave the house. So what I did was to adjust the time earlier so many time till I've no idea how early I am. At the moment it works for me :p

Hi wimbley: I actually use a variation of your technique and am seldom late. What I do is set my clock 10-15 minutes ahead of time so when I look at the clock I panic and really start moving. Even though I know I've done it, it works every time!
Thanks for your comments.
